The Yoga Book That Made Me Lose 30lbs in 3 Months

Yes, you read that right. I lost 30lbs from a yoga book. Let me paint you a picture of what my weight journey has looked like.

Before getting pregnant my weight fluctuated minimally. I was anywhere between 120-130. During pregnancy, I gained over 70lbs. I weighed over 200lbs by the end! Omg.

After my son’s birth, I was hit with pretty severe postpartum depression and anxiety. The suicidal thoughts subsided after a few weeks but it was years before the depression and anxiety were managed. With depression and anxiety comes stress eating– at least for me, it did.

It took me almost two years to get from a pregnant 200lbs down to 145lbs. Then when Levi, my son, was diagnosed with severe autism, my stress eating went out of control. I climbed all the way back up to 175lbs. I gained back 30lbs. When I saw how much weight I had gained in the year after Levi’s diagnosis, I knew something had to give.

 

The Yoga Body and Mind Handbook was gifted to me at a time when I was really needing something to change in my life.

Before using The Yoga Body and Mind Handbook, I had very little experience doing yoga. Yeah, I had gone to maybe 10 classes in my life.  I never did a routine at home. I didn’t feel confident enough to do a yoga routine at home by myself. I told myself things like:

“I don’t know the sequences in the right order “
“I’m pretty sure I’d do the poses wrong if I’m by myself”

While I had always wanted to be a Yoga Queen (YAAAS), I never knew where or how to start.

 

The Yoga Body and Mind Handbook takes you step-by-step through the yoga process. The author, Jasmine Tarkeshi, walks you through the history, basics, and includes a huge reference for all the different yoga poses and how to make them easier or harder– depending on your advancement.

The Yoga  Body and Mind Handbook also has a guide on different types of breathing and meditations you can do. My favorite part is the routines she has in the back. 

I can’t speak for anyone else’s mental health issues, but practicing meditation daily cured my depression and anxiety. I’d highly recommend trying it if you’re struggling.

 

 

I found an easy routine in the back to do every day. Once I memorized that routine, I started adding more poses that fit with my own body. I would never have felt confident to create my own yoga routine without this book. This book changed my life because it gave me the confidence to show up to my yoga mat every day. Once I was showing up to my yoga mat every day, I automatically started eating healthier. The weight just started falling off so quickly. I actually lost 20lbs the first month!

The best part about this book is how cheap it is. I would have paid a lot more for it if I had known how deeply it would have changed my life. There’s a library of super expensive yoga books but this is the book that did it for me.

After four years of being in a deep depression, The Yoga Body and Mind Handbook saved me by giving me the confidence to start a healthy yoga routine every day.

While I did lose 30lbs in the first three months of practicing yoga, in total I’ve lost 40lbs since practicing yoga at home with this book. I’m officially back to my pre-pregnancy self. It feels amazing. What’s even more amazing than the weight loss is the feeling of creating a healthy habit for myself that I’ve stuck to. That alone is worth its weight in gold.
